September is usually my favourite month, not least because it’s my birthday, but this year has been especially great. I think it’s a great time to reflect on my first month as a full-time producer since my studies ended.
I kicked off by handing in my dissertation at the start of the month, now I just need to keep my fingers crossed and wait nervously for those all-important grades to come through! The 2018/19 cohort of the Creative Producing MA just had their induction day, and my fellow outgoing students and I were invited to talk about our experience over the last year. It was incredible to return to the Pervasive Media Studio event space with the lecturers and course partners, and reflect on how far I’ve come in the last year. I’m so much more confident and comfortable in myself, and have a better sense of how to articulate the sort of work that appeals to me – no mean feat as it’s quite an eclectic mix. I am so excited to see what this year’s cohort so with the opportunity (and if I’m honest a little jealous of all the incredible experiences they’re about to have!).
I am also thrilled to announce that I am Echoborg is a finalist at the prestigious Future of Storytelling Conference, for the Innovation in Storytelling category. It’s been an honour working alongside the team on this project, and I’m so excited to hear how everything goes during the judging out in New York next month!
I am continuing my work with Hellion Trace on a freelance basis, helping to deliver some future projects with Laura.
I have also properly taken up my position at Theatre Bristol, so can now frequently be found in their offices soaking up the expertise in the room – why not come along to their next Open Office on 5th November to see what it’s like for yourself?
There are also a few exciting new projects in the pipeline, with a contemporary adaptation of Peer Gynt as well as forming a new collective of theatremakers with some like-minded souls. These projects have given me a great opportunity to get back in a rehearsal room at the early stages of a project, an experience I really miss as I haven’t really done it since last summer’s Let’s Get Clinical piece with Theatre Royal Bath.
All in all, I’m really excited about how the next few months are shaping up. I’m always keen to meet new people and hear about their projects, so feel free to drop me a line if you want to grab a coffee and get some feedback.
