Siân Jones – Producer & Theatremaker

Call of the Wild

My MA in Creative Producing has a huge practical focus, evidenced by the fact that just a few weeks into our first term we were commissioned by Watershed to produce a Family Arts event to sit alongside the anime season that another UWE MA student, on the Curation course, was putting on.

We were tasked with pitching several potential wraparound activities based on the film ‘Wolf Children’ and then deciding as a group, alongside input from the Watershed Family Arts team, which 3 activities would form the final event.

The final event design consisted of creating origami animals, Habitat building using natural materials, sewing plushie beasts and stop-motion animation. There was also a strong experience design, consisting of highly decorated rooms in a forest and Japanese home theme.

As a group we divvied out tasks, and while I headed up the decoration team I also had input into the overall production process including pitching, marketing, proposal documents, risk assessments and managing the flow of people on the day.

The event was a great success, with great feedback from the teams at Watershed and the families who attended. While it was slightly out of my theatre comfort zone it was a great event to be part of, and I am extremely proud of the final result.
