In winter of 2025 I ran a 7-week block of devised theatre workshops. My initial goal was to encourage connection, creativity and confidence in a playful set of workshops, and I was prepared to flex the content and end outcome of the sessions based on the participants that turned up.
In the end, I had a very small group of total beginners so instead of focussing on developing a finished project within the 6 weeks we instead took the time to relearn how to play. The result was a completely joyful set of sessions where we explored our relationships to our own bodies and voices, played lots of improv games, and touched on devising techniques for character development, working with external stimuli and developing plot and deeper character connections.
I unfortunately took very few photos during the workshops, but afterwards interviewed the participants about their experience – and had a little cry at the gorgeous feedback that meant I definitely hit my original goals for connection, creativity and confidence!
I would love to work with more adult groups in this way so I’m always keen to chat about collaborations and opportunities!
